Bosch Serie 4 Washing Machine: Models, Features and Repair in Dubai
The Bosch Serie 4 is the middle of Bosch's four washing machine ranges. On Bosch's UAE website it comes as a 60 cm front loader in two capacities, 8 kg and 9 kg, both spinning at up to 1400 rpm. It has the EcoSilence Drive motor, a drum that spreads water evenly over the load, and AquaStop leak protection. Bosch's series table does not list Home Connect, automatic detergent dosing or the stain-removal system that appear on the Serie 6 and Serie 8.
This guide covers the Serie 4 models listed in the UAE, what each named feature does, how the Serie 4 compares with the Serie 6 and Serie 8, how to choose between 8 and 9 kg, and what owning one costs in Dubai, including repairs. It is written by an independent Bosch repair company, not by Bosch and not by a shop. We do not sell washing machines.
At a glance
- Bosch UAE lists four Serie 4 washers: WAN28282GC and WAN28283GC (8 kg), and WGA14400GC and WGA1440XGC (9 kg). All are shown at 1400 rpm

Bosch Serie 4 washing machine: where it sits in the range
Bosch sorts its washing machines into series. The number tells you the feature level, and a higher number means more features and, in general, a higher price. Bosch's own series page describes its table as "a rough overview for general orientation only", and it is. Capacities in particular vary by market, so use the table to see the pattern and the model listing for the details of a specific machine.
| Serie 2 | Serie 4 | Serie 6 | Serie 8 | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Capacity on Bosch's series page | Up to 7 kg | Up to 8 kg | Up to 9 kg | Up to 10 kg |
| Spin speed range | 400 to 1400 rpm | 400 to 1400 rpm | 400 to 1400 rpm | 400 to 1600 rpm |
| Lowest noise listed (wash / spin) | 59 / 77 dB | 53 / 73 dB | 48 / 72 dB | 44 / 68 dB |
| Display | Not listed | LED display | Touch display (DirectSelect) | Not listed |
| Home Connect (app control) | Not listed | Not listed | Not listed | Yes |
| Automatic detergent dosing (i-DOS) | Not listed | Not listed | Yes | Yes |
| Stain removal | Not listed | Not listed | AntiStain Plus, up to 4 stains | AntiStain Plus, up to 16 stains |
The capacity row needs a caution. Bosch's UAE listing shows a Serie 4 at 9 kg and a Serie 6 at 10 kg, which is one step above the "up to" figures on the series page. The series page is general guidance, and the UAE listing reflects what Bosch sells here. When the two disagree, trust the model listing and the rating plate on the machine.
For many households the Serie 4 is the point where the useful features arrive without paying for the extras. It has the quiet motor and the leak protection that the Serie 2 lacks, and it leaves out the dosing, the touch display and the app control that raise the price of the Serie 6 and Serie 8.
Serie 4 models in the UAE
Bosch's UAE front-loader listing shows these Serie 4 models. The second model in each pair is the silver inox version of the first.
| Model | Capacity | Spin speed | Variant |
|---|---|---|---|
| WAN28282GC | 8 kg | 1400 rpm | Standard |
| WAN28283GC | 8 kg | 1400 rpm | Silver inox |
| WGA14400GC | 9 kg | 1400 rpm | Standard |
| WGA1440XGC | 9 kg | 1400 rpm | Silver inox |
A UAE retailer's listing for the WGA14400GC adds a few details: a free-standing front loader with knob controls, a display, an adjustable spin speed, delay start, child lock, a 15-minute quick wash option, and dimensions given as 85 by 60 by 59 cm. The listing gives the wash noise as 55 without stating the unit, which is probably decibels and is close to the 53 dB that Bosch's series page lists as the lowest for the range. The same listing shows a free one-year manufacturer warranty.
What the sources do not state is as useful as what they do. Neither Bosch's listing nor the retailer's page gives the energy class, the water use per cycle or the drum volume in the text we could read. We have left those out and will not invent them. The rating plate and the energy label on your machine carry the real figures.
Why you will see other Serie 4 sizes online
Searches for the Serie 4 turn up 6.5 kg, 7 kg, and 10 kg machines, and model codes that do not match the four above. Those are real Bosch machines, but they appear to belong to other markets or earlier years. Model codes differ between markets, and a machine sold elsewhere can differ in voltage and plug type. If you are buying a machine in the UAE, check that the exact model code is the one Bosch lists here. If you own an imported one, tell us the full E-Nr before a repair visit so we can check parts.
Serie 4 features explained
Bosch's series page lists the features below for the Serie 4. The table puts each in plain terms and says what it means if something goes wrong.
| Feature | What Bosch says it does | What it means in practice |
|---|---|---|
| EcoSilence Drive | "Durable, energy-saving motor with 10-year warranty" | A brushless motor with no carbon brushes to wear out. Bosch also names it as one of the reasons its quiet models run quietly |
| ActiveWater Plus | "Uses less water by detecting the load size" | The machine detects the load size, so a small load should use less water than a full one |
| VarioDrum | "Evenly distributes water to gently and efficiently wash without creasing garments" | Bosch's drum design, aimed at washing without creasing. Your manual explains how it works on your model |
| SpeedPerfect | "Reduces a programme's duration by up to 65%" | An option that shortens a program. Check your manual for what it changes, and for which programs it works with |
| AllergyPlus | Meets the needs of allergy sufferers and those with sensitive skin | An option aimed at allergy sufferers and sensitive skin. Your manual says what it changes |
| Reload | Lets you add items after pressing start | A way to add a forgotten sock after the cycle has started. The manual says how long the window stays open |
| Time delay | Lets you set a convenient time for the load to finish | You choose when the cycle ends, and the machine starts later to match |
| Drum Clean with reminder | Keeps the washer smelling fresh | A cleaning program, and a prompt to run it |
| AquaStop | Water-damage protection, with a Bosch warranty against water damage | A safety valve in the inlet hose, and usually a leak sensor in the base. The machine stops if it detects a leak |
| Child lock | Stops the controls being changed | A lock on the control panel |
| LED display | "All key info at a glance" | A simple display with the program time, status and codes |
A few of these deserve a fuller note, because they affect how you use the machine.
EcoSilence Drive: the motor
EcoSilence Drive is Bosch's brushless motor. A brushless motor has no carbon brushes, which are the parts that wear out in older motors and cause a machine to lose power or stop spinning. Bosch advertises a 10-year warranty on the motor for selected models. The words "selected models" and the terms of that warranty matter, so read the conditions that came with your machine before you rely on it. Our repairs carry a separate 90-day warranty on the parts we fit.
Without brushes, the motor faults we expect to find are in the wiring, the motor's control electronics, or the bearings that carry the drum. That shapes the diagnosis, and it is why the E-Nr matters (see our carbon brushes and motor guide): it tells a technician which motor your machine has.
A motor-name note on the WAN28282GC
Bosch's series page names EcoSilence Drive for the Serie 4. Bosch's UAE product page for the 8 kg WAN28282GC lists "SilentPowerDrive" instead. We cannot tell from these pages whether the two are different motors or different names, so check the motor name and its warranty terms on your own model's page. Our 8 kg guide has the full specification for that model.
AntiStain on the 9 kg Serie 4
Bosch's series page lists AntiStain Plus for the Serie 6 and Serie 8 and nothing for the Serie 4. ACE and Jumbo, however, list an AntiStain feature on the 9 kg WGA14400GC. We cannot tell from these pages whether that is a different system, a wording difference or an error, so ask the seller to show the feature on Bosch's own page for your exact code. Our 9 kg guide compares the 9 kg Serie 4, 6 and 8.
SpeedPerfect and the VarioPerfect name
Older Bosch listings, and many shops, use the name VarioPerfect for a pair of options: SpeedPerfect, which shortens the program, and EcoPerfect, which saves energy and water by running longer. A retailer's guide describes the options as finishing a wash in under an hour, or using substantially less energy than a standard cotton program. Bosch's current series page names only SpeedPerfect for the Serie 4. If you see a "VarioPerfect Serie 4" machine for sale, check which options the specific model has, because the name describes a pair of features and not every model carries both.
Bosch says SpeedPerfect can shorten a program by up to 65%. Shorter programs suit lightly soiled loads, so keep the standard program for heavily soiled ones, and read your manual for which programs the option works with.
AquaStop: leak protection
Bosch lists AquaStop with a warranty against water damage on the Serie 4, Serie 6 and Serie 8, and a simpler AquaStop tube on the Serie 2. In practice, AquaStop is a safety valve in the inlet hose, plus a float in the base that triggers if water collects there. On many Bosch models the hose has a valve block near the tap. Do not cut the hose, soak the block in water or take it apart. If the valve fails, replace the whole hose. The terms of the water-damage warranty are Bosch's, so ask Bosch for them in writing.
What the Serie 4 does not have
Bosch's series page does not list Home Connect, i-DOS or AntiStain Plus for the Serie 4. That has three consequences.
- No app. On Bosch's list there is no Wi-Fi control for the Serie 4. If you want app control, look at the Serie 8, which Bosch lists with Home Connect.
- No automatic dosing. You measure detergent yourself (our detergent guide shows which compartment). That is simple, but too much detergent is a common cause of smell and residue.
- No stain system. There is no AntiStain Plus program. The ordinary programs, and the pre-wash and extra rinse options, do the work.
These are omissions, not faults. A machine without a dosing pump, a detergent tank and a Wi-Fi module also has fewer parts that can fail.
Serie 4 vs Serie 6 vs Serie 8
The Serie 4 is the right choice for some households and the wrong one for others. This table sets out the differences using Bosch's own series page.
| If you want | Serie 4 | Serie 6 | Serie 8 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Quiet running (lowest dB Bosch lists, wash / spin) | 53 / 73 dB | 48 / 72 dB | 44 / 68 dB |
| App control (Home Connect) | Not listed | Not listed | Yes |
| Automatic detergent dosing | Not listed | Yes | Yes |
| Stain removal | Standard programs | AntiStain Plus (up to 4) | AntiStain Plus (up to 16) |
| Highest spin speed | 1400 rpm | 1400 rpm | 1600 rpm |
| Largest drum on Bosch's UAE listing | 9 kg | 10 kg | 10 kg |
| Display | LED | Touch (DirectSelect) | Not listed |
Choose the Serie 4 if the laundry is routine, you are happy to measure detergent, and you want the Bosch motor and leak protection without paying for connectivity.
Choose the Serie 6 if you want the machine to dose detergent for you and you value a touch display.
Choose the Serie 8 if you want to start and monitor a wash from your phone, spin at 1600 rpm, or have the quietest machine on Bosch's list, for example where the washer sits in a kitchen next to the living room.
A note on energy: Bosch says all its new washing machines are energy efficient, and its series table uses the older A+++ scale. The energy label on your specific machine is the figure to compare.
Serie 4 or the cheaper Serie 2?
For the Serie 2 models we found in the UAE, and the places where Bosch's own pages disagree about them, see our Serie 2 guide. One note from it: Bosch Egypt and Bosch Malaysia call the Serie 2 motor SilentPowerDrive, while the series table names EcoSilence Drive, and we cannot tell whether those are the same motor.
Bosch's series table gives the Serie 2 up to 7 kg, a 59 dB wash and 77 dB spin, an AquaStop tube and EcoSilence Drive, with Reload and time delay. The Serie 4 adds a larger drum, lower noise figures (53 and 73 dB), VarioDrum, ActiveWater Plus, AllergyPlus, SpeedPerfect, an LED display and AquaStop with a warranty against water damage. If the washer sits near living space, or the household washes for four or more, the Serie 4 is the more comfortable step up. For one or two people doing small loads, the Serie 2 may be enough.
If you want a machine that also dries, Bosch's Serie 4 washer dryers are a different product with their own capacities. See our Bosch Serie 4 washer dryer guide.
Which size: 7, 8 or 9 kg?
Bosch's UAE buying guide gives household guidance. An 8 kg or 9 kg machine suits homes with three to four people. A 10 kg machine suits homes of five or more, although the guide says a 9 kg machine also suffices for five. For bulky items such as duvets, it suggests 8 to 10 kg.
In the Serie 4 range in the UAE, that makes the choice between 8 and 9 kg:
- 8 kg (WAN28282GC): a sensible size for a couple or a small family doing regular loads.
- 9 kg (WGA14400GC): worth the step up if you wash bulky bedding often, have a family of four or five, or want to cut the number of loads.
Do not buy for the largest load you wash twice a year. Size the machine for the loads you wash every week.
Spin speed. Bosch's guide lists 1000, 1200, 1400 and 1600 rpm and recommends 1400 or 1600 to leave clothes drier, which cuts the time they need to dry. Every Serie 4 in the UAE listing spins at 1400 rpm.
Noise. Bosch recommends a low-noise model if the machine sits in a living space such as a kitchen or bathroom, and says its quiet models use an EcoSilence Drive motor and anti-vibration sidewalls. The Serie 4 has the motor. The lowest noise figure on Bosch's page for the Serie 4 is 53 dB when washing and 73 dB when spinning, and the spin figure is the louder one.
Size of the machine. A standard Bosch front loader is 60 cm deep, and Bosch also makes a 45 cm slim model for small spaces. Measure the space, the door swing and the route to the room before the machine arrives.
Questions people search that have short answers
Does the Bosch Serie 4 have Wi-Fi? Bosch's series table lists Home Connect for the Serie 8 and not for the Serie 4. Check the specific model's page before you buy, because a listing can differ from a table.
Is there a Bosch Serie 4 top loader? The four Serie 4 models on Bosch's UAE listing are front loaders. A "top load" result is likely a different product line, so check the E-Nr.
Is there an integrated Serie 4? Bosch has a separate built-in category. A built-in machine has a different model code from the free-standing ones above, and an integrated washer is usually harder to pull out for a repair. Check the code against Bosch's built-in listing.
What are Silence Plus and Super Silence? Bosch uses those labels mainly for dishwashers. For washing machines the quiet-running feature is EcoSilence Drive. Our dishwasher guide covers the dishwasher labels.
How much does a Serie 4 cost? One UAE retailer listed the 9 kg WGA14400GC at AED 1,783.99 including VAT, reduced from AED 1,999, when we checked on 2 November 2026. Prices change with offers and stock, so check the retailer.
Is the Serie 4 reliable? We do not have failure-rate data that would let us rank Bosch's ranges, and we are wary of anyone who claims to. What we can say is that its faults are the common faults of any front-loader: drainage, door seals, inlet valves, door locks, bearings and control electronics. The care routine below prevents the cheapest ones.
Installing a Serie 4 correctly
Many early problems come from installation, not from the machine. Whether a shop delivers it or you do, check these before the first wash. Your manual gives the exact steps for your model.
- Remove the transport bolts. Front-loading washers are locked for shipping with bolts at the back. A machine run with them still in will shake violently and can damage itself. Keep the bolts and the plugs, because you will need them if you move.
- Level the machine. Adjust the feet until it does not rock when you press down on the diagonal corners, and tighten the lock nuts.
- Connect the inlet hose. Hand-tighten it to the tap and to the machine, check that it is not kinked, and open the tap fully. Check for drips after the first fill.
- Fit the drain hose without kinks. Follow the manual's guidance on the position and height of the drain connection, and make sure the hose is not squashed behind the machine.
- Plug into a wall socket that is within reach and in good condition, not into a damaged multi-socket. Check that the trip switch has not tripped.
- Run a first empty wash with a small amount of detergent, as the manual suggests, and watch it fill, wash, drain and spin.
If a machine in a built-in space shows leaks or noise at the first wash, stop and message us whoever installed it before you load it.
Buying checklist: new, display or second-hand
New machines are simple: the model code on the box should match the model you intended to buy, and the invoice should show it. Beyond that, a few checks apply to every Serie 4 purchase.
- Match the E-Nr. Compare the code on the rating plate with the one on the invoice and the Bosch listing.
- Keep the invoice. It is your proof of purchase and the starting point of any warranty claim. Photograph it today.
- Ask what the warranty is. The retailer listing we saw states one year from the manufacturer. Ask the seller for its terms in writing, and whether the motor warranty Bosch advertises applies to your model.
- Inspect on delivery. Look for dents and scratches before the delivery team leaves, and check that the transport bolts are fitted so that you know to remove them.
- Ask who installs it, and what is included. Hoses, a connection to the drain and the removal of an old machine are often separate.
For a second-hand Serie 4, add tests that you can do at the seller's home:
- Look at the plate and note the E-Nr and the production date code, so you can check parts and age.
- Run a short cycle and watch it fill, wash, drain and spin. Listen for a rumble that grows with speed, which suggests worn bearings.
- Open the door seal folds and look for tears, black mould and trapped objects.
- Check the drum by hand. With the door open, rock the drum. It should feel firm, not loose.
- Smell the drum and the drawer. A sour smell is a maintenance warning, though it is often fixable.
- Ask for the invoice and any repair history. A machine with no history deserves a lower price.
Do not buy a used machine you have not seen run a full cycle. Once you own it, our AED 99 inspection can check it and tell you what is wearing before you rely on it.
Owning a Serie 4 in Dubai: care and servicing
A Serie 4 needs very little, and most of it is ten minutes a month.
- Clean the pump filter. Unplug the machine, put a tray under the service flap at the bottom front, and open the filter. Coins, hair grips and lint collect there. Bosch's own steps for a drainage fault are to close the tap, switch off, unplug, let the water cool, empty the machine through the small drain hose, then clean the pump cover and housing. Our washing machine guide gives the steps in full.
- Wipe the door seal. Clean the folds at the bottom, where hair and residue collect, and leave the door ajar after the last wash of the day.
- Wash the detergent drawer. Bosch lists it as easy to clean.
- Run the Drum Clean program. The machine reminds you when it is due, which Bosch lists as a feature. Do not ignore the reminder.
- Measure the detergent. Without automatic dosing, over-dosing is a common mistake, and it leaves residue that makes a machine smell.
- Check the hoses. Look at the inlet and drain hoses for kinks and the connections for drips.
- Check the machine is level. Press down on the diagonal corners, and if it rocks, adjust the feet.
Know the signs that a service or a repair is due, and act on them early:
- Water takes longer to drain, or a little stays in the drum after a cycle
- A new smell that survives a hot cleaning cycle
- A rumble, knock or squeal that grows with spin speed
- Drips at the door, the drawer or under the machine
- A code on the display, or a cycle that stops without a reason
- Clothes coming out wetter than before after the final spin
Each of these is cheaper to fix when it first appears than after it has been ignored for months.
If you are in Dubai and want a check by a technician, the AED 99 inspection looks at all of these, runs a test cycle and gives a written quote for anything that is wearing. You decide what to approve.
What a Serie 4 repair costs in Dubai
A Serie 4 has the same fault list as other Bosch front loaders. The table shows typical prices, excluding 5% VAT. The AED 99 inspection is deducted from the repair if you go ahead.
| Fault | Usual cause | Typical fix | Time on site | Price (AED) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Not draining | Blocked pump filter, failed drain pump | Clear the filter, replace the pump | 45 to 90 min | 150 – 320 |
| Not filling | Inlet screen, inlet valve | Clean the screen, replace the valve | 45 to 90 min | 160 – 300 |
| Not heating | Scaled or failed element, temperature sensor | Replace the element or sensor | 60 to 120 min | 260 – 480 |
| Leaking | Worn door seal, hose, pump housing | Replace the seal, hose or housing | 45 to 90 min | 180 – 380 |
| Not spinning | Motor wiring, imbalance sensor, bearings | Replace the failed part | 60 to 120 min | 220 – 520 |
| Won't start | Door lock, control module | Replace the lock, or repair or replace the module | 60 to 120 min | 250 – 650 |
| Door won't open | Lock actuator, blocked drain | Release the door, replace the actuator | 45 to 90 min | 160 – 340 |
| Noisy drum | Worn bearings, shock absorbers | Replace bearings or dampers | 2 to 4 hours | 380 – 780 |
| Control module fault | Failed electronics | Repair or replace the module | 60 to 150 min | 320 – 750 |
The part and the access decide where in the range a quote falls. A drain pump costs far less than a control module or a set of bearings, and a built-in machine takes longer to pull out. Our washing machine repair guide explains each fault and its error codes, including E17, E18 and F21.
Repair or replace a Serie 4?
Use a real new-machine price as the reference. The 9 kg WGA14400GC was listed at AED 1,783.99 including VAT on 2 November 2026. A workable rule is that a repair costing more than about half of a comparable new machine, or a machine past ten years old with two serious faults, is a case for replacing. Half of that price is about AED 890.
Here is how the arithmetic works. The repair prices below are examples from our placeholder ranges, so check your own written quote.
- Three-year-old Serie 4, drain pump failed, quote AED 280. That is 16% of the new price. Repair it.
- Six-year-old Serie 4, control module fault, quote AED 650. That is 36% of the new price. The machine is still young, so repair it, and ask whether the module can be repaired and not replaced.
- Eleven-year-old Serie 4, worn bearings and a failing door lock, quote AED 1,100. That is 62% of the new price on an old machine with two faults. Replace it.
Two points tilt the decision. A new machine comes with a manufacturer warranty, and the listing we saw showed one year, while our repairs carry 90 days on the repaired fault. And the repair keeps a machine you know in a space it already fits. We will tell you if a repair is not worth it, and if you decline, you owe only the inspection fee.
How to book, and the warranty on our repairs
You book online or by WhatsApp. We confirm a two-hour window, and the technician messages you on WhatsApp 30 minutes before arriving. On site, they diagnose the fault, show you the failed part where possible, and give you a written quote with the part number. Every repair carries a 90-day warranty on the parts fitted and the labour for the repaired fault. We list the part number on a VAT invoice. If your Serie 4 is still inside Bosch's warranty, contact Bosch first. Our service center page explains how to decide, and our customer care guide lists Bosch's own contact routes.
We repair Bosch washing machines across Dubai, with typical arrival times of 50 to 75 minutes after the technician sets off. Areas include Dubai Marina, JLT, Downtown Dubai, Business Bay, Palm Jumeirah, JVC, Dubai Hills, Mirdif and Al Barsha.
Frequently asked questions
What does Bosch Serie 4 mean?
Serie 4 is the second-highest of Bosch's four washing machine ranges, sitting between the Serie 2 and the Serie 6. It adds the EcoSilence Drive motor, AquaStop leak protection and a drum design that spreads water evenly, but it has no Home Connect, automatic dosing or stain-removal system.
Which Bosch Serie 4 washing machines are sold in the UAE?
Bosch's UAE listing shows the WAN28282GC and WAN28283GC (8 kg) and the WGA14400GC and WGA1440XGC (9 kg), all at 1400 rpm. The second model in each pair is the silver inox finish. Retailers may also stock other codes, so check the E-Nr.
Is the Bosch Serie 4 a good washing machine?
It is a sensible mid-range machine with a quiet motor and leak protection. Whether it suits you depends on whether you need the extras of the Serie 6 or Serie 8. We have no failure-rate data to rank the ranges, so we do not claim one range lasts longer than another.
Does the Bosch Serie 4 have Wi-Fi?
Bosch's series table lists Home Connect for the Serie 8 and not for the Serie 4. Check the model's own page before you buy.
What does EcoSilence Drive mean?
It is Bosch's brushless motor. Bosch advertises a 10-year warranty on it for selected models, so read the conditions that came with your machine.
What is the difference between the Serie 4 and the Serie 6?
Bosch lists automatic detergent dosing (i-DOS), AntiStain Plus and a touch display for the Serie 6, and none of the three for the Serie 4. Both spin up to 1400 rpm, and the Serie 6 is listed as quieter.
Is it worth repairing a Bosch Serie 4?
Usually, if the machine is under about ten years old and the repair costs less than about half of a new equivalent. At the AED 1,783.99 retailer price we saw for the 9 kg model, that threshold is about AED 890. Drain pumps, seals, inlet valves and door locks are routine repairs.
How much does a Serie 4 repair cost in Dubai?
Most repairs fall between AED 150 and 780, excluding 5% VAT. A blocked filter or hose is the cheapest, and bearings or a control module the most. The AED 99 inspection is deducted from the repair if you go ahead.
Where is the model number on a Serie 4?
On the rating plate, usually inside the door opening or on the back panel. The model number is the E-Nr, for example WGA14400GC. Photograph the plate and send it with your booking.
